the longest night—december 21st

Sunday, at approximately 6:05 PM EST, the Sun moves from Sagittarius to Capricorn, signaling the Winter Solstice.

Then, around 8:30 PM EST, Luna joins to exact their New Moon conjunction at 0º.

Arthur-Rackham-Illustration-042The shift from Autumn to Winter is conjoined with the pitch black point of the month, where intention barely begins to muster up its ultimate potential.

Quiet. Serene.

Since the Virgo Sun ingress this Summer, the New Moons  have fallen on or dangerously close to .

The purest of freshest starts.

Tomorrow’s event is no different.

Alright. So, first, I will discuss the high jinks of lovely Sagittarius/Capricorn Moon, then update the Uranus/Pluto Square and finally get on to the changing of the Season.

At almost precisely 6:30 AM CST, on Saturday, November the 22nd, the Sun perfects his conjunction with the Moon, shortly after moving from Scorpio to the 9th sign of Sagittarius.

While most of us slumber, he passes over the Scorpio/Sagittarius cusp to immediately start a new Lunar month at sunrise, at 0º.

The very next day, the asteroid Chiron in Pisces turns direct at about 5:45 PM in the evening!!

Folks, this is a crap ton of Mutable energy swirling about the Heavens.

Flexible, adaptable, malleable!!!

What exactly does the Archer and the Fishes have to offer us?

fast and dirty—only a matter of degrees

hs-2003-09-a-small_webSince the next New Moon falls on 0º of Sagittarius, I am posting a fast and dirty about degrees of special consideration in astrology—of which, zero most certainly is!

Alright, let me break down some of the more common examples—

Aries Points:

  • the first degree of any Cardinal sign—Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn
  • they mark the seasonal changes—Equinox or Solstice
  • depending on which planet or point falls here, there is great impetus towards a fresh beginning

Avatar Points:

  • the 15º of the Fixed signs—Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius
  • they are the half-way point between the seasonal changes
  • characterizes points or planets with a sense of stability and stubbornness

Classical Critical Degrees:

  • 0, 13, 26 degrees of the Cardinal signs
  • 8-9 & 21-22 degrees of Fixed signs
  • 4 and 17 degrees of the mutable signs
  • these are traditionally very sensitive points and any body located here will be emphasized

Beginnings and Endings:

  • the oº and 29º of any sign are seen as important
  • these are the cusps—the areas where two fundamental archetypes seem to meld into one another
  • the 29º is known as the Anaretic degree
  • when a body or point is at the 29º, it is commonly felt a crisis concerning the pertinent themes is occurring, therefore the planet is debilitated somewhat
  • planets or points at the 0 degree are seen as more stable than the 29th and may be areas of power, as such the Aries Points

Fixed Stars:

  • during ancient times, these were bright objects in the sky that did not move like the planets did—named ‘fixed’ by the Ancients
  • not traditional degrees, but I thought I would mention them anyway—more thorough post to come later
  • there are many Fixed Stars, each with their own myth and importance, some well-known ones are Regulus and Sirius

A few additional notes:

  • with the exception of the Fixed Stars, there are no orbs to these degrees—a planet is either located there or it isn’t
  • Fixed Stars have very tight orbs—1-2 degrees only
  • such special degrees are used extensively with progressions and predictive work and added to interpretations of the natal horoscope to add nuance and depth

More info—here and here.

Well, there you go, folks. Short and sweet.

The upcoming New Moon is at 0º Sagittarius and on deck to be a  flexibly wonderful new start.

october 23rd—bathing in burgundy

Thursday, October 23rd at around 5PM, the Sun, Venus and Moon together move into the Fixed Water sign of Scorpio, creating a Partial Solar Eclipse at 0°. This marks the answer to the Total Lunar Eclipse earlier this month.

If you have planets or points at the first degrees of the Water or Fixed signs—yep, pay attention!

Regardless, whichever house this activates will be of special importance at this time.

We have been in a delightfully simmering limbo since the eclipse of 8th of October and now there will be somewhat of a release.

I say ‘somewhat’ for this is a New Moon.  And at this time, we are setting intentions for the Full Moon in two weeks.

So, there will be no cataclysmic eruption of energy, but rather the undulating leap frogging of chronological astrological events that are working to rhythmically nudge us toward our necessary futures. The universe is kindly but sternly showing us the way.

Very well.

What exactly does all this Scorpio energy have to offer us?

august 23rd—season of the maiden begins

Saturday the 23rd, the Sun moves from the sign of the Lion to the steadfast Mutable Earth sign, Virgo.  She will Art-Nouveau-Painting-010stay here until late in the evening of September 22nd.  In the astrological chart, she rules the 6th House of work and health and is ruled by the Messenger God, Mercury.

What do you think of when you think of late August?

It is still stupid hot from Summer, but the threat of Fall looms large.  Stores are full of back-to-school paraphernalia and the gardens are brimming as well, with ripening veggies from the season’s labor.

Yes, Virgo is the sign of the harvest, the fullest point of the year.  Now, is the time to reap what was sown months ago.  Now, is the time to go back to learning and put the fun of summer vacation behind us.  Now, is the time to begin preparation for Winter.

Virgo is a mental sign.  Her little brain never quiets.  She is forever evaluating, categorizing, analyzing her environment to make her world function just so.

She is the opportunity to fine tune your world.  She promises clear mental acumen.  She is restless and has the stamina to see the project through.

She is Mutable Earth.  She is stable and resolute, but unlike her fellow Earth signs, Taurus and Capricorn, she is naturally flexible.  Her top priority is getting the job done accurately and she will bend to make it so.

She is the Sun’s last hooray til next spring.  Put her to work and she will pay back ten-fold.

She suffers when not being of service.  Use her.
